Moderator, presenter and radio and podcast creator. Curious about the substance, with a feel for the moment.
I’m Mattijs Franken. I host events, guide conversations and create radio programmes and podcasts. Different forms, driven by the same curiosity: understanding the subject and what someone has to say.
That is where my preparation begins. What is going on? Who is joining the conversation? What does the audience want to know? During the programme, I listen, ask follow-up questions and leave room for whatever emerges. An unexpected answer, a probing question or humour at the right moment.
From NS and Frisse Blikken to the stage
Before becoming self-employed, I held advisory and leadership roles at Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch national railway company. I then became managing partner at Frisse Blikken, where I helped develop the agency’s communications offering.
I bring that background to my work as a moderator and presenter. I have got to know organisations from the inside and understand that an event often involves more than the topics on its agenda.
I work with organisations across business, healthcare, government, education and the cultural sector. From conferences and panel discussions to talk shows and hybrid events, in Dutch and English.
Behind the microphone
My studio work is also driven by curiosity. As a stand-in presenter, I host DagNacht on NPO Radio 2. Previously, I made radio programmes for RTV Utrecht, BingoFM and Yoursafe Radio.
I also create and host podcasts. Sometimes they start with a detailed plan; sometimes with a subject that calls for a format of its own. I help shape the format, editorial approach and structure of the conversation.
Social engagement
Alongside presenting, I am the executive director of Stichting De Ster. The foundation helps children and young people develop self-confidence and resilience.
I have been involved with De Ster since 2014, initially as a volunteer. Today, it brings together my social engagement and my experience in leadership and organisation.
